Canada Artistic Swimming (CAS) is very proud to officially nominate Team Ontario to represent Canada in the solo, duet and team events at the next FINA World Youth Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina, this August.

Delegations from across the country came together last weekend in Edmonton for the SYNC Artistic Swimming Championship, hosted by Alberta Artistic Swimming (AAS), in the hope of qualifying as the country’s representative in Charlotte. In the end, after tight races displaying the depth of talent in the 13-15 age group in Canada, 10 athletes from Ontario were selected to participate in the 2nd edition of the Youth World Championships.

“We’d like to thank Alberta Artistic Swimming for hosting this event and Jaime Thompson for her leadership,” said CAS Chief Sport Officer Kerri Morgan. “We’re very proud of our Canadian representatives at Youth Worlds and we wish them the very best as they wear the maple leaf in Charlotte.”

In the team event, Ontario finished first to get their ticket to Charlotte, followed by Quebec and Alberta.

The solo and duet events were also tight battles. In solo, Olena Verbinska from Ontario took first place followed by Charlie Breault from Quebec and Chiu Tung (Lucy) Zhou from British Columbia..

Verbinska partnered with Abby Wang to win the duet event and qualify as the representative for Worlds. Quebec’s Lily Bernier and Andréa Escobar took silver while British Columbia’s  Abereena Xu and Chiu Tung (Lucy) Zhou won the bronze.

CAS is also proud to nominate Christopher Niehaus and Madeline Delazzari, from Olympium Artistic Swimming, as the Canadian representatives in the mixed duet event at Youth Worlds.
