The Duet Free finals brought standout performances on Saturday at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.
Opening with the ‘B’ flight, Quebec’s Coralie Pelletier and Ariane Harvey produced yet another strong swim for their province. Harvey explained how incredible she felt performing in front of family and friends who had traveled out to St. John’s to support her and the team.
The stands were a sea of colour, with fans from every province decked out in their brightest colours. Cowbells, horns, and even squeaking rubber chickens echoed through the venue, proof the crowd came ready to cheer.
As anticipation built, attention shifted to the ‘A’ flight — the medal race that carried the highest stakes.
New Brunswick’s Cameron D’Arcy and Kayla Leavitt were all smiles after coming out of the water, proud of their polished routine.
“It was super exciting to get our full DD and to just have a really clean swim,” said D’Arcy. “We’ve been swimming with each other for a long time so it means a lot.”
Alberta’s Jasmine Peloquin and Kyla Williams claimed bronze with a fierce leopard-themed routine, landing 213.1063 points for a combined score of 461.0388 points.
Fresh off its historic first medal in Friday’s Solo Free finals, Saskatchewan added another thanks to Joley Friesen and Sienna Kuchuran’s duet. “I feel like I’m gonna cry,” said Friesen. They delivered an impressive 231.4290 points for the routine, bringing their total to 470.4715 points.
“We were really hoping for this, it was our goal coming into this season and coming into the games, so we were really happy. We put all our energy into that swim,” said Kuchuran.
At the top of the podium, Quebec’s Lily Bernier and Andrea Escobar powered to gold, giving Escobar her second medal of the Games with another breathtaking routine.
“We really gave it our all; we were connected together from start to finish, and we’re very proud,” said Escobar.
Their routine scored 234.8813 points, for a combined top score of 498.513 points, 28.0448 points ahead of the silver medalists.
