Host venues for 2020 Qualifier and Canadian Championships are announced.
Canada Artistic Swimming is proud to announce that Markham, Ontario, and Quebec City, Quebec, have been selected as the host cities for its 2020 Qualifier and Canadian Championships national competitions.
2020 QUALIFIER – MARKHAM, ON
The 2020 National Qualifier will be held at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham, Ontario. Hosted in partnership with the Markham Synchro Club and Ontario Artistic Swimming, the event will welcome over 450 athletes from across Canada on March 24-28, 2020.
Canada Artistic Swimming’s National Qualifier is the largest competition on the national calendar, welcoming athletes in the 13-15, junior and senior age groups looking to qualify for the year-end National Championships. In addition, the competition serves as part of the national high performance talent identification process, with top athletes being evaluated by experts throughout the week.
This will mark the first time that Canada Artistic Swimming stages an event at this venue, which was built in 2015 for the Toronto Pan Am Games where it hosted the badminton, table tennis and water polo events. A world-class sport complex ideal for hosting large sporting events, the Markham Pan Am Centre features a 10-lane 50-metre pool, with capacity for 2000 spectators, that is ideal for artistic swimming. Centrally located in downtown Markham, the venue is easily accessible by car, train or bus and boasts an experienced hosting staff.
“The Markham Pan Am Centre is honoured to host the 2020 Artistic Swimming National Qualifier,” stated Janis Cookson, Manager Sport Development at the City of Markham. “Our Sport Development team looks forward to partnering with Canada Artistic Swimming to make this event a success. The City of Markham is proud of its rich sporting heritage and values a strong sporting culture and is excited to meet the high-performance athletes, coaches, officials and support teams participating in this competition”.

2020 CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – QUEBEC CITY, QC
The 2020 Canadian Championships will take place at the Desjardins Aquatic Centre, at PEPS in Université Laval in Quebec City, Quebec, on May 4-9, 2020. Following the success of the 2019 edition in Kamloops, the event will once again welcome athletes from the 13-15, junior and senior age groups who will be vying for the 14 national titles. It will be hosted by Canada Artistic Swimming in partnership with Québec Excellence Synchro and Natation Artistique Québec.
Since its construction in 2013, PEPS has welcomed numerous successful artistic swimming events, including the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 National Qualifier and most recently, the 2019 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series and 2019 Canadian Masters Championships. It features a 10-lane, 50 metre pool that is 3 metres deep on its entire length, a rare configuration that allows teams to practice in ideal conditions anywhere in the pool.
“Quebec Excellence Synchro is thrilled to help host Nationals again for the first time since 2013,” stated club vice-president Mélanie Beaudoin. “It’s always inspiring to see the best artistic swimmers in the country in our home pool, and to witness outstanding performances. I’m confident that our team of volunteers will once again rise to the challenge and help deliver a great event for all our guests.”
Guests will be able to book accommodation at the Université Laval residences for the competition, or at Hotel Universel which is right across the street from the venue.
