Tuesday was the first day of competition for Artistic Swimming at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Diving straight into the solo technical event, 19 athletes competed in front of an energetic crowd at The Works Aquarena in St. John’s.

Alberta’s Jasmine Peloquin opened the program performing to Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s Die with a Smile, with teammates and spectators cheering her on.

“I was a little bit nervous at first, because I’m usually later in the draw, but honestly I really liked it,” she said.

The nerves were not enough to shake her, as she finished strong with 211.4067 points, landing her in fourth.

The program saw impressive performances from Quebec, Alberta, and Ontario — with Saskatchewan following not far behind. While this is not a medal event, the final points count towards the combined score with the free program finals to determine the medal standings.

Quebec’s Andrea Escobar leads the competition after today’s routine with 223.1208 points. She was happy with her performance and looking forward to the free events.

“It just made me more excited to swim again,” said Escobar.

Escobar’s teammate Lily Bernier follows closely with a final score of 222.5125 points, with Alberta’s Lilian Wark in third is with 211.5483 points.

Newfoundland and Labrador native Mia Fradsham competed in front of a home crowd, several waving the provincial flag to show their support for her and her teammate Abigail Porter

“I’m so excited for this week. I’m so excited to swim with my team, my province,” said Fradsham.

The excitement was shared by Ontario’s Madison Murphy, who was buzzing after her routine.

“It was super super fun. The crowd was insane and the venue is incredible. This whole experience has been insane.”

The competition continues tomorrow with the duet technical program at 12:45 NST and team technical program at 17:00 NST.
