Canada Artistic Swimming announces that its National Qualifier will be held virtually in 2021. The event, which was exceptionally supposed to be split into two divisional editions in 2021 to reduce travel, will now feature routines from the whole country and take place on April 8-11, 2021.
The innovative virtual format will feature pre-filmed routines from clubs spanning the country that will be judged virtually by national officials watching on their computers and streamed to the country on Canada Artistic Swimming’s website.
Special rules and accommodations will be put in place to allow all clubs to participate regardless of the provincial restrictions they fall under, including having to stay distanced from teammates, limited amount of athletes in the pool, less pool space, etc. This will also include the ability to enter in special dry land events for clubs that might not have enough access to water to prepare for the event and participate in it.
There is also a provision for the competition to become solely focussed on dryland events and forego the water part. The deadline to make this determination is February 15, 2021.
Canada Artistic Swimming would like to thank the Saskatoon Aqualenes and Saskatchewan Artistic Swimming, who were slated to host an in-person Western Qualifier in Saskatoon in 2021, for all their work leading up to now. It is our hope that we will be able to return to Saskatoon for an event in the near future.
