The Calgary Aquabelles won the gold medal in the combo event on Friday at the Shiseido Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships in Toronto.

The Aquabelles accumulated 82.7333 points for the win performing their “Diva” routine. Montreal Synchro was second at 79.9333 and Synchro Laval third at 76.6333.

In the senior team technical event, Team Canada placed first in the international standings with a strong rendition of their new technical routine, earning 89.4012 points. Mexico was second at 85.5708 and Argentina third at 79.2684.  SynchroElite from Quebec City took the national open crown with a 69.9130 score.

Canada’s Senior National Team is in action here all week as it prepares for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto which will also take place in the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatic Centre.

Jacqueline Simoneau charms the crowd

In the international senior solo free event, Canada’s soloist Jacqueline Simoneau won the crowd’s heart with her powerful rendition of her new free routine, earning 91.4333 points for her efforts.  Etel Sanchez from Argentina was second with 84.4000.

In the national rankings, Dollard Synchro’s Kali Wong earned her third gold medal of the event with a score of 79.9333.  Brooke Brimo from Montreal Synchro was second with 75.2667 while Petra Regini from Aretaic Alliance came in third with 75.1667.

Junior Team Preliminaries

In junior team preliminaries, Toronto’s Aretaic Alliance is in the lead with 77.4511, with the Aquabelles a very close second at 77.2596.  SynchroElite from Quebec City is third with 74.7726.  The final is on Saturday, the last day of competition.

Over 250 synchronized swimmers from 33 clubs, 8 countries and all 10 Canadian provinces are in Toronto to compete in the 2015 Shiseido Canadian Open Championships, along with over 80 coaches and 30 officials.  The competition continues through to Saturday, May 2.
