Jade Warren of Gloucester Synchro kicked off the 2016 Canadian Espoir Synchronized Swimming Championships on Wednesday by ranking first in the all-important figures standings in the 13-15 age group. Warren topped the 235-entry field with a score of 71.1620 points.  Teah Hoffman, from the Calgary Aquabelles, ranked second at 70.9190 while Anne-Sophie Moreau of Quebec Excellence Synchro was third at 70.7700.

The top 35 in the 13-15 figures event advance to Phase 2 of the 2016 National Team Trials, a second figures event scheduled for Friday.  The top 24 athletes from that second phase will meet again on Sunday for a third phase when a final team will be selected.  The team will take part in the 2016 UANA Pan American Championships set for September in Puerto Rico.

13-15 Duet Preliminaries Round

Olivia Jensen-Large and Maura McLean, from Regional Training Centre – Ontario, took the lead in the 13-15 duet preliminary event with a combined score of 140.8108.  Kerri Eisner and Ava Neely of the Aquabelles are second at 137.5000 while Eva Blainey andScarlett Finn, from Toronto’s Granite Synchro are third at 136.5040.  Neptune Synchro’sEmma Van Strydonck and Audrey Veilleux earned the third best routine score of the preliminary round and follow very closely in fourth position with a combined score of 136.4110.

Welcome Ceremony and Special presentation from Olympic Duet

The Welcome Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 2, at 4:45 pm.  The ceremony will feature Jacqueline Simoneau and Karine Thomas who will be giving a demonstration of the technical and free programs they will be performing at the Rio Olympics next August.

Over 300 synchronized swimmers from 31 clubs and 9 Canadian provinces are in Winnipeg to compete in the 2016 Canadian Espoir Synchronized Swimming Championships, along with over 80 coaches and 30 officials.  The competition continues through to Saturday, June 4.
