BIOGRAPHY
In her second year of synchronized swimming, Gwendolyn McGuire was given the opportunity to go to the Prague Christmas Cup, an event that she stills cherishes to this day : “It was a great competition where I was able to watch some of the best athletes from around the world. This was a highlight for me since it was my first time at an international competition and it inspired me to train to be as good as they were”. In 2015, she swam and won silver with Team Alberta at Canada Winter Games. She enjoyed it because “it was really different from regular competitions and I loved being able to have that experience”. The same year, she represented Canada for her first time with the Junior National Team at the UANA PanAms in Calgary, a highlight of her career so far.
GETTING TO KNOW THE ATHLETE
- Getting into the Sport: Did diving before changing to Synchro. She saw synchronized swimmers during a practice and decided to try out a synchro camp. Instantly fell in love with the sport!
- Why she loves Synchro: “Until I was eleven years old I did all kinds of sports – diving, swimming and cheerleading. I loved them all. Synchro brought together all the sports I loved. It combined the artistic aspects of cheerleading, but I was still able to swim in the water!”
