Ottawa, January 8, 2016 — Synchro Canada’s National Development Manager, Lilianne Grenier, was announced today as the new Head Coach of the Australian Synchronized Swimming National Team. As such, she will be leading their team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Lilianne, from Laval, QC, has been with Synchro Canada since 2012. She was responsible to assure the efficiency of the national developmental program so that it met Synchro Canada’s national junior and 13-15 teams high performance standards.
A poolside staple at all national competitions – usually with a camera in hand – her enthusiasm and passion for the sport were highly contagious.
Part of Lilianne’s task was also to take the lead role as Head Coach of our National Teams (Junior in 2013 and 13-15 in 2014 and 2015). Last summer, at the Mediterranean Cup in Italy, she lead the 13-15 National Team to a bronze medal in the duet event and a 4th position in the team event. With the national teams, her responsibilities were also to develop the selection process and organizing the selection meets. She also assumed technical responsibilities such as managing services and follow ups for the athletes.
At the technical level, the Laval native instilled an athlete monitoring system, visited clubs, conducted camps and clinics and was a resource for coaches across the country.
“This is an exciting and absolutely amazing opportunity for Lilianne to gain new experience and knowledge in the sport of synchro swimming at the highest level,” stated Synchro Canada CEO Jackie Buckingham. “Although she will be hugely missed in Canada, I know you all join me in wishing her the very best in this new challenge.”
Lilianne starts her duties down under at the end of January 2016.
