Synchro Canada Centre of Excellence welcomes 60 athletes for Senior & Junior National Team Trials

Montreal, November 27, 2015 — The Canadian synchronized swimming elite is gathered in Montreal this weekend for Synchro Canada’s Centre of Excellence Trials where both senior and junior-aged athletes are competing for spots on their respective national teams. Over 60 athletes from 8 provinces and 12 clubs are taking part in the comprehensive three-day selection process that features testing both in and out of the water.

In the senior trials, both current members and National Team hopefuls from all over the country will be vying for berths at Synchro Canada’s centralized Centre of Excellence.

Selected members will be announced before the end of the year and will begin training at the Centre of Excellence in Montreal as of January 2016. The newly selected team will take part in the all-important Olympic Qualifier tournament where teams from all over the world will compete for the last three remaining berths for the 2016 Rio Olympics team event. In addition, new members will be selected to join the Centre’s training squad as it begins, starting in the fall of 2016, a new Olympic cycle heading towards the 2020 Games in Japan.

The Centre of Excellence trials are also the first step in the selection process for Canada’s Junior National Team which is slated to compete in the 2016 FINA Junior World Championships in Mexico this fall. The top 24 athletes from this weekend will be invited to attend a Training Camp in Toronto at the beginning of January to continue the selection process.
