The strength of Canada’s Artistic Swimming National team was evident again this past weekend in Budapest, Hungary, as the country finished first overall in the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series. Through the eight stops, plus the Super Final, Canada amassed 1425 points, to take the all-round title over Ukraine at 1365 and Spain at 1220.
Canada picked up six more medals at the Super Final to bring their season total to 36 medals on the circuit (10 Gold, 13 Silver and 13 Bronze).
The medal haul started on Friday with a bronze in the Duet Technical, where Claudia Holzner and Jacqueline Simoneau took third with 87.6666 points, behind the duos from Ukraine (92.0205) and Italy (89.0333).
In the solo events, Simoneau continued the medal count for Canada with a silver in the Solo Technical and a bronze in the Solo Free.
In team competition, Canada swam to a trio of bronze medals, taking third in the Team Technical, Team Free and Highlight routine. The team finished behind Ukraine in first and Spain in second in all three events.
Next up for the Canadian squad will be the FINA World Championships, July 12 – 28, 2019 in Gwangju, Korea. Then they will head to Lima, Peru, to compete on July 29th and 31st at the Pan American Games where their sights are set on claiming the Americas continental qualifying spot for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan.
