Rachel Blainey and Alexa Swales, representing Toronto’s Granite Synchro, won the Canadian Espoir Championships’ 11-12 Duet event today at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg, MB.
The young pair posted a score of 62.2224 to capture gold ahead of Jasmine Raybould and Sarah Taylor from Olympium Synchro who placed second with 61.6681. Juliet Alexander and Lauren Bell, from Calgary Killarney Synchro, won bronze with 61.2388.
Earlier in the day, Gloucester Synchro’s Meaghan Lapierre ranked first with 67.0890 points in the 11-12 figures event. Charlotte Gray of Granite Synchro was second at 65.8890 and Léonie Corbeil of Neptune Synchro third at 65.4880.
13-15 Preliminary Events
In 13-15 team preliminaries, the Calgary Aquabelles picked up where they left off at the National Qualifier event last March by coming first with a score of 140.7477. The teams from Montreal Synchro and Quebec Excellence Synchro are on their heels in the second and third positions with scores of 138.5731 and 138.1564. The winner will be crowned at the very end of the competition on Saturday afternoon.
In the 13-15 solo preliminary round, Teah Hoffman of the Calgary Aquabelles stands first in a very tight contest with a combined score of 140.2523. Flynne Gosling of Victoria Synchro is second at 140.0557 while Jade Warren, of Gloucester Synchro, is in third at 139,8287. The final will be held on Saturday morning.
Over 300 synchronized swimmers from 31 clubs and 9 Canadian provinces are in Winnipeg to compete in the 2016 Canadian Espoir Synchronized Swimming Championships, along with over 80 coaches and 30 officials. The competition continues through to Saturday, June 4.
