Montreal, October 15, 2015 – Synchro Canada would like to thank and congratulate Lisa Mikelbergits recently retired athlete Lisa Mikelberg who announced her retirement.

From Montreal, QC, Lisa Mikelberg has been with Canada’s national synchronized swimming team for seven years.  She recently won gold in the team event at the Toronto 2015 PanAm Games in July, culminating a career that saw her compete in three FINA World Trophies (2010, 2011, 2012), and at the 2013 FINA World Championships. In Toronto, she was Team Canada’s flyer – the athlete who gets launched out of the water in acrobatic highlights – continuing Canada’s tradition of excellence at the position.

Over the years, Lisa she has competed all over the world including at the Spanish, Brazil, Japan and German Opens and in the Moscow and Beijing World Trophies.  She is currently enrolled at McGill ‎University in the bachelor of education early childhood immersion program. Upon graduation, she hopes to become an elementary school teacher.

“I’m glad to be able to retire after the highlight of my career which was our gold medal performance at the Pan Am Games in Toronto in front of my family and friends”, stated Lisa.  “I’d like to thank all my teammates from the past seven years, Daniel for his love and support and of course, my incredible parents who have followed me all over the world to cheer me on and support me.”

“On behalf of all Synchro Canada members, I would like to thank Lisa for her contributions to Canadian synchronized swimming”, said Synchro Canada’s Senior National Team Head Coach, Meng Chen. “It has been great working with Lisa and we will remember all her hard work over the years.  She is now turning to new challenges and I know she is ready to face them and that she will be successful at whatever she decides to do. »
