Lisa SandersMontreal, November 9, 2015 – Synchro Canada would like to thank and congratulate Lisa Sanders who recently announced her retirement from the Senior National Team.

From Gormley, ON, Lisa Sanders set her sights on representing Canada when watching the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on TV. After being a member of Canada’s Junior National Team in 2011 and 2012, she moved up to the senior national team at the end of 2012.

She competed at the 2013 Summer Universiades where Canada finished fourth in the team technical and free events, and at the FINA World Cup and FINA World Trophy in 2014. She was also in Kazan, Russia, at the end of the summer, to compete in the FINA World Championships.

Recently, she was a member of the Canadian team that won gold in the team event at the Toronto 2015 PanAm Games in July.

“The highlight of my synchro career was competing at the Pan Am Games,” said Lisa.  “To be able to compete – and win gold – in front of a home crowd is a memory I will cherish forever.  As I look back on my career, I’d like to thank all of my friends and family for supporting me throughout the years, and of course my teammates for all of the unforgettable memories!”

As a newly retired athlete, Lisa will be turning to her attention to her schooling, coaching, and experimenting with her love of baking.

“On behalf of all Synchro Canada members, I would like to thank Lisa for her contribution to our national program”, said Synchro Canada’s Senior National Team Head Coach, Meng Chen. “Lisa is the kind of athlete who pushes herself every day to achieve her goals. Over the past 3 years, under huge pressure, she has been steadfast in her commitment to excellence and she has been a great teammate.  I wish her all the best.”
