Simoneau & Thomas fourth in Technical Duet at 2014 FINA World Cup

Québec City, October 2, 2014 – The opening event at the 13th FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup was the Duet Technical competition, featuring 17 pairs stemming from all five continents. Canadians Jacqueline Simoneau (St-Laurent, Qc) and Karine Thomas (Gatineau, Qc) didn’t miss their chance to impress the home crowd and the judges by delivering a strong performance earning them 87.8295 points and placing them 4th in the current standings.

“Overall, we are satisfied with our performance”, said Thomas. “We would have liked to get higher marks, but we know what we have to work on to keep moving up in the standings.”

“To place on the podium, you cannot make a single mistake”, added Head Coach Meng Chen. “Karine and Jacqueline delivered a strong routine, but there are still things to work on. Jacqueline is still very young. This is her biggest competition so far on the world stage in the duet event, and we are confident that with hard work and Karine’s experience, this pair will keep showing steady progress.”

China sits in first place with 92.2374 points followed by Japan at 89.7767 and Ukraine at 89.1607.

The duet technical is worth 50% of the total duet score. The event will be completed on Saturday as the competitors will perform their Free routines.

Competition resumes tomorrow starting at 4pm with the Highlight Team preliminaries and the the Team Technical event.
