Montreuil, March 22, 2014Jacqueline Simoneau of Montreal won the silver medal in the solo free final and Canada earned two bronze medals in team finals on Saturday to conclude the France Open Make Up For Ever synchronized swimming competition.

In the solo free final, Yukiko Inue of Japan took the gold medal with 91.4000 points.  Simoneau, a 17-year-old in her first season as Canada’s senior soloist, followed at 88.2667 and Linda Cerruti of Italy was third at 87.5667.

In the team free final, China won gold with 91.7000, Ukraine was second at 90.7667 and the Canadians third at 89.0667.  The Canadian team members were Marie-Lou Morin (Westmount, Que.,) Lisa Mickelberg (Montreal), Kaylene Scheil (Calgary), Annabelle Frappier (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que.), Sandy Gill (Coquitlam, B.C.), Jacqueline Simoneau (Montreal, Que.), Gabriella Brisson (Calgary) and Claudia Holzner (Calgary).

In the team technical final, China completed its golden sweep with 89.3150, Ukraine was second at 87.1965 and the Canadians were third 86.0587.  The Canadian swimmers were Simoneau, Gill, Holzner, Brisson, Frappier, Morin, Scheil and Janelle Ball of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que.

Last weekend at the German Open in Bonn, Canada took silver in the team event.

‘’These were our first competitions this season and we surpassed our expectations’’, said Morin, the team captain. “We had specific goals for the French Open and we achieved them this week.  We overcame challenges and reduce the point gap with the teams ahead of us.  We return home with new challenges and goals as well as lots of motivation.’’
