Budapest, HUN – Thursday was Duet Day at the 2018 World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in Budapest, with all duet events taking place throughout the day. Emily Armstrong, from Toronto, ON and Paige Hopper, from Calgary, AB, formed the pair selected to represent Canada in the free and technical programs.

In the duet free preliminary session held in the morning at Duna Arena, Emily and Paige swam with confidence en route to a solid score of 85.2000, good for 6th place. Swimming last in the final, the pair coached by Jennifer Tregale and Jennifer Koptie delivered an inspired performance and improved their score by more than a point to 86.2333, confirming their 6th position against a strong international field.

In the duet technical event, Emily and Paige placed 8th with a score of 84.2473.

Russia and Ukraine captured the gold and silver medals in both the free and technical events, while China (tech routine) and Japan (free routine) won one bronze each.

The competition will resume tomorrow with a single event on the schedule: the team technical final. After 2 days of solo and duet events, this will be the first opportunity for the rest of the Canadian team to dive in and compete in these Junior World Championships.
