Clare McGovern named Junior Athlete of the 2014 Canadian Open Championships

McGovern received Pat Murray Trophy awarded to the top FINA Junior Individual Aggregate score

SASKATOON, May 5, 2014 – Clare McGovern of the Granite Synchro Club and from Toronto, ON, was awarded the Pat Murray Trophy as the top Junior Athlete of the competition to close the 2014 Canadian Open Championships in synchronized swimming.

During the competition held in Saskatoon from April 29 to May 3, McGovern swept all Junior events, winning the gold medal in the Junior Solo event, the Duet event with her partner Wenjing Deng, the Team event with her Granite teammates and finishing first in figures.

Suzanne Eon Trophy to Johana Vasquez

Johana Vasquez from Synchro Laval won the Suzanne Eon Trophy which is awarded to a coach during Synchro Canada’s Canadian Open Championships to reward and encourage this person to continue coaching.

Charlotte Tutte Trophy to Genevieve Beauregard-Ross

Geneviève Beauregard-Ross from Dollard Synchro won the Charlotte Tutte trophy that is awarded to a coach who reflects the philosophy of Charlotte Tutte in developing team spirit and enhancing the growth of athletes as individuals and competitors.

Best overall artistic performance MAKE UP FOR EVER Awards

The Calgary Aquabelles won the best overall artistic performance MAKE UP FOR EVER Award for the 2014 Canadian Open Championships for their combo routine “DIVA”.

This award were given to the top junior or senior team based only on the artistic marks during the team or combo final. All winning athletes received products from MAKE UP FOR EVER.
