at Université Laval’s PEPS in Québec, October 2 to 5, 2014

A little more than a month before Québec City hosts its first FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup, the organizing committee has unveiled programming information as well as the event’s visual signature. The ticket office is also now open to the public. The FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup is held every four years and the 13th edition is coming to the brand-new PEPS aquatic centre, October 2 to 5, 2014. For this Canadian first, the international elite will come to Québec City from as many as 20 countries to write another page in the sport’s history.

INSPIRE

The event’s visual signature brings together elements surrounding the sport, water, the excitement generated, the athletes, and the next generation of synchronized swimmers, with the word INSPIRE at the heart of the advertising campaign. “The central keyword uses the French verb INSPIRER, to breathe in before diving underwater—a physical link to the swimmers—as well as the fact that young up-and-coming swimmers will be inspired by this unique chance to see the world’s finest in action”, explains Synchro Canada President Mario Welsh. “The double meaning plays on ties between the sport, its athletes, and the next generation.” The event’s brand-new website is now online at finasynchroquebec2014.com.

Swimming fans are invited to the four days of World Cup competition. Tickets can be purchased directly from the event website or the PEPS ticket office.

Four days of competition

Over the four days of competition in Québec City, the world’s top swimmers will take part in four events: Duet, Team, Free Combination, and a new Team Highlights event. In all, more than 100 athletes are expected to come with their respective teams, making for a total of 200 participants, including officials, coaches and support staff. The first edition of the event was in Tokyo, Japan, in 1979, and Québec City will be hosting the 13th edition, after Changshu, China, in 2010, where Canada won one silver and three bronze medals. From October 2 to 5, China, the Ukraine, and Japan will be countries to keep a close eye on—along with Canada, of course!
