Prince George, February 25, 2015 – Quebec’s synchronized swimmers took the lead in both preliminary events on the second day of competition at the Prince George Aquatic Centre.

In the spectacular team preliminaries, Quebec narrowly edged Alberta with 74.1482 points (which includes the average scores from the figures event).  Alberta was a very close second with 74.1227 and Ontario followed with 73.2456.

“We’re very happy with today’s performance”, mentioned Quebec assistant coach Nathalie Lagrange after the team event. “We know what our strengths are and we’re confident that they’ll be on full display in the finals.”

“I’m very proud of our athletes and of their performance today”, analyzed Alberta head coach Jennifer Tregale. “In the finals, we’ll be looking to have our best performance ever and leave it all in the pool.”

Earlier in the day, the Quebec duet formed by sisters Ioana and Maria Gheta performed a new routine which, once figures were included, earned them first place in preliminaries with 74.3428 points. Alberta’s Paige Hopper and Cassie Winkelaar are second with 73.6407 points, followed by another Quebec pair, Brooke Brimo and Melody Roy, with 72.8546 points.

“This is the most technically challenging routine we’ve ever created”, stated older sister Ioana, “but at the same time, we love it so much that we’re always completely confident when we jump in the water.  For finals, we need to correct a few synchronization errors and make sure to push until the end.”

The finals start on Friday with the duet and team events after a rest day.
