Synchro Canada is pleased to announce the athletes who have been named to its 2018 Senior National Athlete Pool. The 15 athletes were selected at the conclusion of Synchro Canada’s Fall Development and Evaluation Camp that took place in Montreal on November 22-26 at the Institut National du Sport du Québec (INS).
With a shift in focus from a centralized national team, the athletes named to the pool will train in clusters across the country and come together for shorter, intense training cycles built around the times of yearly international competitions, including World Series events and World Championships as well as Olympic Games qualifications.
“We were extremely pleased with the preparation of the athletes and coaches as they came into Montreal for the Development and Evaluation Camp,” said Julie Healy, Chief Sport Officer, Synchro Canada. “They were all very supportive of the shift from a camp focused on evaluation and selection, to the focus on both development and looking much further down the road for our sport than just the next few years or even just the current Olympic cycle. With the support of our coaches, we are confident that our athletes will benefit from training closer to home, honing their skills and continuing to evolve, and then come back together again nationally to prepare for competitions.”

“I am excited to start the next chapter of the Senior Program with this newly selected Senior Athlete group,” said Leslie Sproule, Synchro Canada’s NextGen Technical Director and Head Coach. “The focus for the next 2 years will be to build athleticism and fitness, build gymnastic and acrobatic vocabulary of movement, increase our standards and expectations for the quality of our movements, develop choreography that will capture the hearts and imagination of our audience and move our high performance culture from good to great.”
The members of the athlete pool will train in their own home clubs for the year and take part in intensive training camps in January, February and March, after which a final team will be selected to compete in international World Series events in the spring and summer.
